Dean Karl Reid Statement on Pre-Engineering Academies in Oklahoma

The nation faces a serious shortage of engineering graduates. International competitiveness is at stake nationally, and economic vitality is at stake in Oklahoma. We simply are not getting enough young people into the "pipeline" for engineering education, nationwide or in Oklahoma. Oklahoma industrial firms are having great difficulty meeting their needs for engineering graduates. The Oklahoma Pre-Engineering Academies have the potential to make a real difference in the numbers of high school graduates who enter engineering education. We are proud to be a partner in this effort with Oklahoma high schools and Oklahoma Career Tech.

*Pre-engineering education uses national curriculum that strengthens academic courses with hands-on, real-world application of engineering concepts.

*Pre-engineering education will help your child make an informed decision on declaring engineering as a college major and successfully complete the degree.

*Programs provide opportunities for high school students to earn college credit.
